Graphics card help, 8800 gts vs. 2900 pro/xt?
Ok so this is my current rig:
MSI k9n sli platinum (nvidia 570 sli)
AMD x2 4200+ @ 2409 Mhz
7600 gt @ 619 gpu, 807 mem
Ultra x2 550 modular PSU
2 GB OCZ ddr2 667 in dual channel
Ok so my goal is to run bioshock and everything less than it on max, and I wanna be able to run Crysis at 12X10, upper mid graphics. All my games r gonna be running at 12X10.
Im planning a graphics card update soon. I'm in between teh radeon 2900 hd pro and the 8800 gts 320. my questions r this:
1. Can the pro be OC'd to xt speeds?
2. Once it is OC'd, it will perform like an 8800 gts 640 mb, right?
3. Is my PSU strong enough?
4. What should I do, I know the 8800 gts 320 is a solid card, but if i can get the pro and then OC to xt, then its liek having a 640 8800. is my logic reasonable?
O and btw its the 512 mb 2900 pro.
ok, first off the first guy who answered doesnt know very much about gpu's. i say this because the 640mb version of the 8800gts would be a waist of money because you wouldnt need all that extra memory for 12X10 resolution. the 320mb version would save you 100$ and work just fine.
second, your power supply is fine.
third, the 2900 pro and 2900 xt are close to the same card. just the 2900 pro has a little lower core clock speed and memory speed. so yea you will be able to overclock the 2900 pro to be close to as good as the 2900 xt IF you have good cooling for your graphics card. you should keep a very close eye on the temperature of the card while idle and on load. buy a expansion slot fan if you have to. water cooling, something.
one thing about crysis:
the president of crytek, cevat yerli, said himself that a dual core cpu, 2 gigs RAM, and a 8800 gts should max crysis. BUT, it just so happends that the 2900xt is a little bit better of a card then the 8800gts. the point is, ether card you choose will work fine for the games you mentioned.
