Layer Fleece A guinea pig question about cage cleanliness?
We have two long haired guinea pigs and I've asked several questions on here before and have gotten some wonderful answers from those of you who are more experienced guinea pig owners. Now, I think I'm doing things correctly according to the advise I've received concerning bedding materials. I have a layer of fleece over the top of absorbent puppy pads and the recommendations of most people here said to vacuum/shake out the fleece daily and change the pads weekly, but to be honest, the pads smell horrible after just two days. This is going to get really expensive! lol Any thoughts or suggestions from any piggy aficionados?
Also, the hair accumulates on the fleece at warp speed and is a nightmare to clean up...we brush them regularly (which they hate!) yet in a couple of days it's like a furry carpet on the fleece. It doesn't like to come off in the washing machine either, so to say the least, clean up of these little critters is becoming a huge time consuming task. Ideas?
I have two guinea pigs and love them to death, but i know exactly what your talking about. i dod the same thing until it became too much of a hassle, so i bought many books, and talked to my local vet and petcare experts. i am so glad i did. they told me about a bedding called carefresh. it is soft and springy, and completely non toxic. the guinea pigs love the feel of it, and it doesnt stick to their fur like a lot of the wood chip beddings. you only have to change it about once every 3-7 days and the odor control is amazing! i promise that once you try carefresh, you will never look back. ONE THING TO AVOID!!! is cedar or pine woodshavings, the fumes of of those shavings are toxic to your little piggie.
Keeping warm is not so easy and when outdoors, actively exercising in the winter. One of the best ways to keep warm is by using layers and one of the main layers being the fleece jacket.
With the outside ambient temperature, changes of the rate of exercise together with how the wind is blowing all work against maintaining a constant body temperature. So, how can we keep warm and not lose heat whilst not being over powered by too much insulation? The best way to combat against such low temperatures is by putting layers on and typically 3 types of layers are required.
The first layer is the base layer and is the one that will touch your skin. The human body still perspires on a cold day so the base layer that is against the skin is extremely important to not only insulate, but breathe too. Synthetics and silks work well for this but don’t use cotton.
For the intermediate layer we can use our fleece jacket. These layers insulate by simply trapping air and the weight and depending on the temperature, number of intermediate layers can be varied. The level of activity also dictates too. Be sure to carry an extra intermediate layer in your backpack to put on if either it gets colder, gets wet, or you stop for a rest.
The outer layer is the layer that functions as a vapor barrier to combat against precipitation. It also acts as a wind breaker but allows the moisture to be released that is generated by your body. Outerwear such as nylon Supplex works well or Gore-tex may be preferred for much colder weather.
Keep your hands warm and comfortable by using a good quality pair of gloves. It is often advisable to carry another pair of hand protection in case you get injured or your gloves get cold or wet so your can warm your hand quickly.

Determining What The Best Motorcycle Helmet Is For You
So exactly what is the best motorcycle helmet? Well that depends a number of different factors which you must consider when deciding which type of helmet you want to purchase. This article will explain a number of different factors that will help you decide which helmet might be the best when you make the decision to buy.
First of all, you'll need to keep your budget in mind because this will be a great starting point that will help you eliminate a number of different helmet options, depending on what your budget will actually allow you. If you have a large budget, then you'll be able to focus more on name brands like Bell, Shoe, HJC, and so on. These helmets are typically more expensive than if you were to look at other helmet brands such as Rodia, Scorpian, and others. These helmets, regardless of brand, are comparatively similar when you consider safety and comfort, but because they are name brand, the first group mentioned are more expensive. If your budget allows it, and you prefer the name brand gear, then you'll want to go that route. If you don't have quite as big a budget, you will have to opt for the second group mentioned, which may offer the same type of protection and quality as the others.
Next, you'll want to consider what type of riding style you have to help determine exactly what is the best helmet for you. If you prefer the look of a hard nosed, bad to the bone biker, then you'll want to steer towards the half helmet or novelty helmet look. These helmets tend to be sleeker and smaller in design and come in a variety of different styles and shapes including German style, Classic USA style, Polo style, and more. These helmets can be customized with different types of stickers, logos, paint jobs, anything to help portray your attitude while riding. If you're a more conservative rider that is leaning more towards the idea of whether or not the helmet provides enough protection, then you may want to consider a 3/4 helmet or a full face helmet. These helmets are made to provide more protection to all parts of the riders head, which often times gives conservative riders a more secure feeling.
Safety is sometimes a big concern for those that are looking to buy a motorcycle helmet and the level of safety provided by the helmet increases as you go through the different types of helmets. The least safe helmet on the market is the novelty helmet for the fact that it does not contain an inner shell that can hold up to high impact situations. Because these helmets are made more for looks, they are made to lack in the attributes that typically cause the helmet to be more bulky. This is how they achieve the sleek, low profile look. Next in line are the half helmets. These helmets have the inner liner which protects the riders skull, but do provide coverage to the facial area of the head. Finally, the full face helmets provide the highest amount of protection to the rider's head because the helmet completely encompasses the rider's head.
If you're trying to determine what the best motorcycle helmet is for you, keep these few ideas in mind and you'll be well on your way to finding the perfect match for your riding style.
Leather Gloves Mens Severe bag and glove situation, especially with the bag?
I am after a nice casual leather MENS messenger/record bag but cant seem to find one anywhere.
Everything on-line is either boring, horrible or tacky or a combination of the three and going into the following shops in London:
Harvey Nicks
Selfridges
Harrods
Doors (mb jas)
Has been unsuccessful. The three department stores above only seem to have the "rhetoric" leather bag - strap with front lip, pocket on the back. Very frickin boring. Plus there seems to be loads of sale stuff and not very much decent stock.
And after hearing good things about MB Jas bags, the shop in London was balls, its tiny with only 1 type of mens messenger bag.
So, can anyone recommend a place in London or online where i can get a really nice mens lether messenger bag? Budget of £300 max.
And while you're at it, i'm also after some soft leather (must be soft), black mens driving gloves. They too must be very nice and not your "standard" boring pair of leather gloves. Ideas??
Thanks!
Maybe the problem is that you're looking at 'messenger bags' and not portfolio bags or just briefcases. Messenger bags are traditionally exactly as you've described. Start with e-bags, just to get an idea of the style that you're looking for. They have an incredible selection of goods:
