Black Yellow
what bird is black on top and bottom and yellow from cheek to tail along sides or wings?
BIrd was perched atop a tree in my yard. It lloked like it had yellow wings, but it could have been a yellow strip along the side of the body from the cheek to beyond the hip joint. (is that what it is called?). I had never seen one before. The black was VERY black, yellow was brilliant. No white, NO grey. It was a medium sized bird, about 6-8 inches, maybe bigger, about the size of a catbird. Voice was distinct notes but not a song, just single notes that had a little bit of expression, but not much.
I hope this is enough info. I can't find any black with yellow birds iin the books, only yellows with some black and other colors.

The Baltimore Oriole's body is opposite in coloration -- the breast is deep dark dark,very black black.
This sighting is in southern California.
This is quite a challenge Evelyn. There are only a few of species of Orioles that reach Southern California. The only regular oriole species, not only in California but in the United States, that has any consistent and reliable "yellow" is Scott's Oriole (Icterus Parisorum). Also consider the Hooded Oriole (Icterus Cucullatus). However, it must be taken into consideration that what you were looking at was not an oriole at all. And, furthur still, it may have been a true rarity or accidental. Consider other birds such as the Western Tanager, the Audubon's Oriole (an unknown species to California) and the Yellow Grosbeak (to my knowledge another unknown species to California.) Good luck.

I have 1 drk chclte brown wall. The other 3 I want off white. Should I use white w/a touch of black or yellow?
Right now the other 3 walls in my room were painted beige but look like a cafe latte. It is because of the reflection from the dark chocolate brown wall. I want to repaint the other 3 walls lighter so the reflection will be even lighter but I don't want to paint them white. I am not sure if it makes a difference if the paint has a little yellow or black?? I don't want it too yellow though.
Try:
1] cream [ white with a bit of yellow ]
2] off white [ white with a bit of brown ]
3] white with black would be a pale gray - don't think that would 'go' well
