Cat World

How should I introduce my cat to the outside world?
My cat Ellwood (no jokes about the name please-he likes it) is seven months old, we live in a flat but are looking for a house (suitable for a cat.. garden, quiet street etc).
What will be the best way to introduce him to the outside world, without him doing a runner? I'd like him to return once in a while!
Also if we are unable to have a catflap, should he be kept indoors at night?
Thanks for your help!
The best thing is to keep him indoors all the time and never let him out. He's safest indoors and would be just fine and happy enough being allowed to see out a window or being allowed to sit in a screened open window once in awhile. Cats are happier, healthier, safer, and longer-lived indoors.
If you absolutely must let him outside, go with him every time he goes out and follow him around for a few weeks until you are satisfied he knows his way around. Definitely bring him indoors at night. There are so many dangers at night: wild animals (even in urban and suburban areas), other pets that people put out at night, drivers that won't see him or even (it's true) try to run over him.
It really is best to keep him indoors.

What does the world's heaviest cat weigh?
I hear its this cat named himmy who weighed 46 pounds. I need to know for a fact what the heaviest cat weighs because our cat weighs about 49 pounds so i think i have the worlds heaviest cat. FYI he doesn't look like he weighs that much because he's really muscular and NO i don't give him steroids lol
Hi there... Himmy who lived in Queensland, Australia at 46.8lbs and died at the age of 10: http://www.cat-world.com.au/CatRecords.htm
To date there are no current records held because Guinness no longer will allow to accept the world's heaviest cat category as they don't want to encourage pet owners to overfeed their animals which is very unhealthy.
I sure hope you will have your cat vet checked to make sure your cat doesn't have a thyroid condition which can contribute to cats gaining weight. Additionally, cats who are overweight tend to suffer from diabetes which can be a life-threatening condition if left untreated.
