Golf Flag Pin Size? Not height but width?

I am trying to make a golf green in my backyard, and I don't want to buy a real golf flag, I want to make it myself. At home depot they have pipes, I guess you call it, at different sizes, and I need to know which one to get. Don't measure around the pole, just measure at the top to see the dimensions. They have sizes like 3/4 an inch, 1/2 and inch ect.. please help!

When Shopping for Golf Course Supplies, Flags are Important

When shopping for golf course supplies flags should be at the top of your list.  There’s a lot that goes into the game of golf, but underlying everything else, the main objective is to simply hit the ball into the hole.

This, of course, means that hole-visibility is of utmost importance.  Think back to a time when you were standing on the tee box waiting to hit your drive and you were unable to locate the pin.  Sometimes this is due to course layout, but other times it’s because the course has substandard flags.

As a golf course superintendent, it’s your job to ensure that the golf course is up to par, so to speak.  As such, it’s your duty to ensure that the flags on the course are in tip-top shape.  You want the golfers who play your course to be able to spot the flags so that they have a clear target when they stroke their ball.

Taking care of the small details such as the flags on your course can mean the difference between a good course and a great course.  You want your course to be a great course.

If you’re a backyard golfer, you should also consider selecting a good flag or two for your practice putting green.  Even if you only use one flag for practicing your short game, it pays dividends to make your target as realistic as possible.

Some people practice their short game by aiming for something other than a flag.  However, research indicates that by making your practice environment as realistic as possible, you can improve the effectiveness of your practice.  And because people practice to get better at the game, why not make your practice as effective as possible?

Sounds exciting! I just found an article on NZ (South Island) in an old National Geographic. It is a 1972 edition so probably out of date, but very interesting and the pictures are spectacular! I would love to see it im person.
Things here are moving along nicely. The grass is growing beautifully and I have finished the golf flags. Russ and Gtampa have started on the new addition to the Pamona (kitchen and bathroom) so next time ou visit we will have a Jacuzzi tub to relax in ( or fight over)
I had a call yesterday from a woman who isinterested in having her wedding here next spring. She's coming Monday see the place and discuss details.
Shea is doing OK but had a miscarriage a couple weeks ago. She has a full time job now and is thinking about going back to school.
Karissa had a baby girl – less than 6 pounds and only 16 and a half inches long. Both are doing well in spite of the fact that it turned out to be ceasarian.
