Lens Shield
Do any Blue Cross Blue Shield plans offer vision coverage for eye exams?
I am shopping for individual insurance plans...Blue Cross has a lot of reasonable options for medical care but lists eye examinations as a limitation not covered by the plan. Anyone aware of Blue Cross Blue Shield vision care options that do provide this coverage? Contact lens examinations are once a year so I think vision coverage is worthwhile. I work as a consultant so do not receive this benefit from my employer. Thanks in advance!

Learn All You Need To Know About The Sony Hvr Hd1000
PROS: Light weight, good picture and sound quality, nice colors, stable images and a variety of outlets.
Down sides: Only few external controls, no separate battery charge.
The HVR-HD1000 is Sony's 'entry-level professional HDV 'camcorder', hooked up with a shoulder-mount design, making it an easy to use camera in most situations. The light weight of the body is also a big pro for whoever needs to carry it around. Filming 10-minute shots actually seems bearable with this camcorder. Also, there is only one ring for several functions. One will only be able to focus or zoom or change the exposure one at a time when using the ring. Of course there is another control for zooming on the side, and exposure isn't something you will want to manually change every 5 seconds. Still aan extra ring would have been useful to add, but again, as this is an 'entry level professional HDV™ camcorder, one can't really complain about the missing feature.
The HVR-HD1000 model is mostly targeted at wedding videographers, freelancers and educational video creators. Don't let this fool you though. In the right hands, it can still be of good value for certain productions. It won't quite give you television show quality of course, but especially in these days, where most film makers start off on the internet, it's nothing less than up to the task of making a good looking production.
The HDV format only allows the user 60 minutes, but the difference in image quality is astounding. What's a shame about these formats though is the fact that you are only able to shoot interlaced video, the HVR-HD1000 shoots in '1080i' when shooting in HDV format. These days, most camcorders, even the somewhat lower priced ones, shoot in 1080p, the progressive format that saves quite some time in the editing and rendering process. In fact, without de-interlacing the video first, putting it online will result in the footage showing horizontal lines across the screen, meaning some editing is absolutely required to make ones footage look presentable.
HDV1080i recordings can be captured on DigitalMaster professional tape as well as consumer MiniDV.
Built-in down-converter creates DV material, perfect for standard DVD productions.

It's a shame the HVR-HD1000 has been put up there with the 'real' professional camcorders since it's clearly not one. When looking at the price though, it's well worth its money. The fact that it shoots in DV and HDV, it's light weight and it's user-friendly features makes it an easy to use camera for consumers, and a fun toy for those who are used to working with the bigger equipment.
