Make a pinhole diameter the same size as the aperture on a camera lens?
I'm trying to do a project comparing the resolution a digital pinhole to that of a digital camera lens.
Is it possible to make the pinhole sizes match the aperture sizes on the lens? Would the pinhole camera be less likely to work because it does not have the "optimum pinhole diameter"?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
can they be proportional?
At some point you are going to produce holes that "let in the daylight".
If your pinhole is the exact same size as a lens aperture then what's the difference as far as diffraction goes?
Yes, there is a optimum pinhole size for a given focal length and film format. I will try to find the chart if I can.

How long would it take to count all the atoms in a grain of sand?
Approximately. Plus or minus a billion years.
Size of sand grain? The smallest you can see without a lens.
Speed of counting? One per second.
Assuming an average grain of sand is about 1 cubic millimetre in volume and it is composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2, molar mass = 60 g / mol) with a density of about 2.4 g / cm^3:
A 1mm^3 grain would have a mass of (2.4 g / cm^3) / ( 1000 cubes / cm^3) = 2.4 x 10^-3 grams
That mass per grain divided by 60 g / mol = 4 x 10^-5 moles
Then (4 x 10^-5 moles)(6.02 X 10 ^23 formula units per mole ) = 2.4 x 10^19 units of SiO2 per sand grain.
Since there are 3 atoms in one SiO2 unit, there would be (3 atoms per unit)(2.4 x 10^19 units) =
7.2 x 10^19 atoms present in one grain of sand.
Considering there are 31556926 seconds in a year, we are talking about 22,800,000,000,000 years.
