Perhaps the light gray fur up top reflects sunlight with a higher albedo than dark fur has, yet at the same time traps what heat it does have from escaping its body (just not allowing more heat through). The dark belly that lacks fur lets more heat escape but is better at heat absorption than the light fur has. Perhaps if he is cold he could roll over on his back to warm up though I am not an ethologist. See, dark colors absorb heat better than light colors. Then the lemure must have a circulatory system of heat exchange within its body that moves the heat around and these adaptations you mentioned are in harmony with the way it distributes and circulates heat within its body.
If you have a text book you might look in the glossary for homeostasis. Also, we know a lemure is an endotherm because it is warm-blooded and a mammal. Ectotherms are cold-blooded, such as lizards and snakes. The information in the glossary about endothermic and ectothermic may illuminate the problem further if it is a good text.
