Jacket Yellow Black Trying to Identify A Stinging Insect Similar to Wasp or Yellow Jacket?
I was watering a plant in my backyard today when I came across what I thought was a bumble bee. It was about 1 1/2 inches long with a very fat shiny black stinger with yellow stripes on it. However, the body and wings were a brownish-red color. It was a large insect, not slender at all and it had quite large eyes. It made a buzzing sound like a bumble bee. The stinger was broad and fat and came to a sharp point. I thought I had it killed after stepping on it and spraying it with bug spray, but when I came back with the trash can, it was gone. I am concerned because I have dogs and children that like to play in the backyard, but this is unlike any wasp, bee or yellow jacket that I have ever seen. And it is by far, the largest bee of any kind that I have EVER seen. Please help if you have come across this type of insect.
Possibly a European hornet. These are often misidentified as Japanese hornets. Check the link for pictures and characteristics.
I discovered two enormous (about the size of a fist), seemingly hairless spiders in my bedroom. They're mostly yellow, the color of a yellow-jacket insect, with black joints. I cannot find a description of them and am about to send them to the Cincinnati Zoo. Anyone know of these magnificent, vicious-looking spiders in the Midwest United States?
Neither the garden spider nor banana spider. These spiders have thicker legs, are almost completely bright yellow except for black joints. Their heads are reverse-triangular shaped, large thoraxes and quite small abdomens. They do not look indigenous to Southwest Ohio region.
this is certainly an orb weaver, no doubt an argiope
(may be a banded argiope) and if anyone thinks these cant get
large, how about 7 inch legspan. they have even been known to trap
small birds and bats.
indoors is a rather unusual place to find one however.
ps, all spiders have only 2 sements. the head and thorax is fused.
the only other arachnid this might be is a solifugid.
(camel spider) not usually found that far north.
if you mis counted the legs, it might also be a 'jeruselem cricket'
none of these are 'vicious' (harmless actually)
Ktm Orange Motorbike looks tatty, is it ok to have the six plastic bits resprayed a totally different colour?
My Aprilia Pegaso 650 looks very tatty, scrapes and scratches on the plastics and the colour is crap anyway, burgundy yech!.. I was thinking of taking off all the plastics and getting a local bodyshop to respray then say, KTM orange, what do you think? Does it cost much? Will it look ok? I reckon it could look awesome especially with the nobbly tyres I have fitted..
ny paint job could cost in the region of £500 - Mine cost me £600 full re-spray.
A full respray is fine -
You will need to notifie the DVLA and you would need to tell future buyers (if you sell) why you changed the colour - it could put people off, due to it (might) of been in a accident.
Look around the net for paint sprayers, also enquire locally.
I went from a grand figure down to £600 - and got a pretty good job done.
