Urban Tech What is the overall attitudes of students and staff after the fairly recent killings at Virginia Tech?
i am planing to transfer to VT but before i do i would like to gain a butter understanding of the situation there...
currently i am attending Pratt Institute in NYC... a very diverse city...
the reason for this question is that i heard there are major anti asian sentiments in VT after the killings...
i am asian although i am not Korean (the killers nationality)... i doubt the people in VT having anti asian sentiments would make the distinction...
so will the students and staff be unfriendly or hostile towards me if i were to transfer...
im a law abiding easy going person... i have spent most of my life in urban centers like New York City... im just not sure what to expect in Blacksburg, Virginia especially after the killings...
They may be very uneasy around you.
Ex: You get on a plane and you find there are middle-Eastern men on your plane.
Would you get a little freaked out?
You don't need to prove yourself to anyone though. Transfer and if you think it's worth it then stay. You shouldn't be judged for your race though many people will do it. Eventually they'll have to get over it though.
I'm sure there are other Asian student going to Virginia Tech though.
Good luck! :]
Subaru cars are unique and offer some really time-tested battle-hardened models to choose from. Everyone claims that these suckers last forever, and usually have a story of their old "wagons" whose odometer rolled over a few times and still is used to this day. Well those stories are more than just urban legends; Subaru has a real track record for reliability.
Their car's engines and each Subaru part are meticulously monitored from its manufacture source at the Fuji Heavy Industries plant. Fuji Heavy Industries knows about the quality going into parts and assembly, as its aerospace division contracts with the Japan Defense Agency to make aircraft, helicopters and target drones.
The Forester
The forester, like all the Subaru models, comes with the acclaimed Boxer engine that has its pistons aligned horizontally flat rather that the typical V-shape. This format has shown great torque readings with less noise. The Forester is a SUV model that doesn't really look like the square shaped archetype of the traditional SUV.
The Forester is has turned some heads with its safety record. Subaru's Forester car parts specifically have produced great results in impact tests. In 2002 it won "Best Pick" with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This was mainly due to the proprietary Ring-Shaped Reinforcement frames and other Subaru Forester parts that work in conjunction.
The Impreza
Arguably the sportiest of all Subaru models, the Impreza has changed its look over the years making it more and more streamlined each progressive model release. There are a few newly added Subaru Impreza parts to the package. They still have the all wheel drive capability and Boxer engine, but now, just this year, Subaru has the double-wishbone rear suspension that will also make room for the added wheelbase, which is better for road handling.
With projected sales of 2,500 units per month, there will be no problem finding dealers who have Subaru Impreza parts if there is ever a repair or option that you want to add later.
The Legacy
The Legacy is the sedan version of the line up; although they do have wagon models (see the 04' Outback edition). Internally, it's as sound as all of the other models; just as their catch phrase goes "It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru." Still sporting the Boxer engine and all wheel drive, the Legacy is built for styling and large cargo holding capacity. Kind of like the grocery getter with muscle and finesse, the 08' model has a trunk-area-concealed under-floor storage tray with grocery bag hooks to nicely match that description.
All in all you can expect as always a good performance out of the cars. For the most part, and while maintained adequately, the Subaru you choose will treat you well. If ever needed, Subaru Legacy car parts are plentiful. This is one of the most produced cars in the U.S. and has such accolades in it home country as being "Car of the Year" in Japan 2003.
