but i can't find it for a twin size anywhere.

The Bostin Black Country Dialect

The best known word in the Black Country is the word "bostin" which means great or excellent to many.

It's used a lot with the word "fittle", which means literally "food fit for human consumption".

However, it is not clear where the word "bostin" comes from exactly. It may well be from the preacher Wyclif's word "worthy of boast", though he was criticising boastfulness.

It is also said that "bostin" may come from the Old English word "bogan" which means "bursting".

"Bosten" is also a carpenter's pattern which was an excellent pattern so it is said.

The Black Country dialect might sound like terrible English at first hearing but if folk listen more carefully echoes of 1,500 years of history can be heard.

Studies show that 80% of the Black Country words used are that of Anglo Saxon descent. The Anglo Saxons were brave and warlike people, expanding across England and pushing it's native Celts westwards settling in the area.

Place names in the area are almost entirely Anglo-Saxon. Dudder's Lea became Dudley and Cradder's Lea became Cradley. Can you guess what the following became:

"Bladdered" which means very drunk!

"Clammed" which means very hungry!

"Conk" or " Yed" which both mean head.

"Donny" which means hand.

"Gob" which means mouth.

"Gawk" which means stare

"Riffy" which means dirty, unclean

"Suck" which means sweets

"Wammel" Which means animal

"Yampy" which means someones a bit mad, crazy or daft in the head
